Default Sulfer smell.....

I've been noticing a sulfer smell off and on from the exhuast.... Should I try some higher octance gas, or just go ahead and replace it?

I'd make a test pipe, but until I swap motors I'm stuck with emissions requirements (wich this car passed at the end of august......).

I usually recomend trying a different brand of gas. Sometimes they get some that has a higher sulfur content, which causes the stink.

is it new? because i heard that the exhuasts are protected with a liquid that burns when you drive and it goes away after a week or so...

agreed or it could be a bad o2 sensor. Are you running a testpipe?

Well I will share an experience I had. Long time ago my car (G20) had this sulfer smell for about a month. When I would sit and idle it would smell like fart everywhere. This was over a 1 month period with gas from many different places.

Finally got around to changing the cat, and the smell went away.

Seen a few friends go through the same thing as well.

Yea a strong sulfer smell is usually a sign of the cat going bad/clogging up.

Sometimes it takes a little while to burn all the sulfur out of them. If you replace the cat and get another tank of gas with a high sulfur content you'll be right back where you started. (With a lighter wallet.)

You may have a point there. But after I changed my cat, I didn't have the problem anymore and neither did my friends.

It doesn't come up that often anymore. Gas nowadays is alot cleaner than it used to be. Still every once in a while they get a bad batch.

Well, next time it happens, I will just sit it out and see if it goes away on its own. But I can remember it getting worse as time went on. And replacing the cat fixed it completely. But I will see what happens next time.

Mexico's gas has a high sulfer content. You may notice that while driving a round down there.
