Default suggestions-time for engine work should I swap? or do work on D-series. help!

I have a double coupe (four door and I have 170,xxx yes it's a honda engine but I believe now it's time to overhaul or swap the engine. I'm hearing alot of problems with swaps some minor some major but I know it's very possible. I don't want to be the same in a place of many so I want something different if possible. I've read a little bit on the mini-me sounds good since I already have the block also money is a slight issue, work out of town during week is more of an issue and not that much experience underhood doing major engine work. I still want a daily driver all legal hmn hmn, more acceleration, more hp/tq. I usually have weekends to joyride or fix things on my car so time is limited but should I swap or take time to try and do something myself. trial and error can be the best teacher. only Intake and aftermarket muffler on car besides eyecandy. what's the best way to go. p.s. want to be ready by summer.

You could get a B16 swap farily cheap..
That might be your best bet. If you had lower miles Id probably say do a Mini-me and turbo the one you have. But when you get that high in miles things get a bit iffy.

how good is the b16 compared to the other b-series engines +price. should I get a d-series with less miles mini-me then turbo? pretty much want to stay d-series if I can but If not I'll be a B-boy.

If I get new internal work to the engine it shouldn't matter the miles on the engine correct? I'm talking about all internal work or is that too expensive.

No, miles doint really matter when your rebuilding, unless things are really worn. However that can range from $1000 to $3000 depending on where you go. Just for your stock engine.

just do a b16 w/bolt ons your going to get similiar power out of that versus building your motor, then if you want build the b16 later or get an ls block later build that and bolt your head on that, i wouldnt buildyour motor unless your going to turbo it

i have a d series motor that is build with a mini-me head swap and is turboed. My whole build wasnt that much but is probably more than what a b series motor would have cost. I liked what i did because my d will have around 250 hp at about 15 psi with my built motor. For my block i got built for about $500 (bored .20, decked, crank blanaced). Got new rods and turbo pistons for about 300 bucks. I paid $100 for the vtec head and $650 for new valves for it along with port and polish job and a 3 anlge valve job. Then i spent about 400 dollars on a new clutch and Then have about $700 in my whole turbo set up by doing piecing a kit together on my own. So in all i could have bought a B series swap but 250 wheel hp in my del sol is alot nicer in my opinion then 160 or 170 crank hp that i would get out of a b series swap for just a little less then my compelte build. Just something to think about

if you're not looking for a lot of power for racing, etc, then get a LS swap. thats a clean, very cheap and easy way to get a bit more hp/tq.

ls is nice because its torquey, id go with that like screw tape said if your not looking for mad horsepower the LS is a great option. i second that motion

i personally thought bout that but hah, now i decieded to build a d and turbo the hell out of it.

turboing a d series will still be nice, lots of guys here run great d series setups.

IMO- D SERIES BABY
