Default Sudden Free Play in Clutch Pedal

Hey guys, I am brand new to the honda world, but a big DSMer. My little brother has a 1993 Civic LX 5spd. He has been out of town for a few weeks and I have been driving his civic around because my dsm is broken (of course). About 5 days ago, I all of a sudden noticed a few inches of free play in the clutch where before there had been NONE. I was worried and checked the fluid level. It wasn't low at all. I looked for leaks and couldn't find anything. The next day I went on a vacation for 4 days. When I came back, I went to start the car, and the free play was SO bad that the clutch couldn't even disengage. The car won't even start now. Keep in mind this is with nobody driving it. It got worse on it's own. The fluid level still looks good, and I really don't think its the clutch. Any suggestions guys?

I had something similar happen to me, but not to the same extreme. Try bleeding the clutch and see what happens if you can.

Do you know how old the fluid is? Cause while you're bleeding the clutch, you may as well just replace all the fluid while you're at it if it's old.

having the EXACT same problem with my hatch. just bled the entire system (went through an entire small bottle of fluid), and now i have nothing. before it would barely disengage, after bleeding it wont disengage at all. i agree with the m/c being the culprit but going to run it across my transmissions instructor tomorrow and see if i'm headed in the right direction. will report back when i find out.

damn that was fast.

i just replaced both the slave and master about a month ago, but the slave isnt leaking at all, so i'm going with the master cylinder. will still report back my findings.

well i was about to head to the parts store to pick up a new m/c and was reminded by a friend to double check the adjustment under the dash. well to my surprise, like a dumbass, i did not have it adjusted properly when i installed the new one.

even though all signs pointed towards the m/c. so it was an easy fix for me. make sure you have it set the same as the one you took out to not have this problem. good luck with the fix.
