Sub positioning for an EG HB?
I'm grabbing a Type S 12" on saturday in a big ported alpine box, which way should the sub be positioned for best sound?
i used to have another 12 in there and i think it was faced towards the hatch, and before that i had 2 10's and they were faced straight up
whats the best for 1 12?

it's one of those actuall "Type S" box that apline used to sell, the blue or w/e that says alpine on it and came with the 12 already in it, it's a pretty ****** big box i think so it's either towards the seats or the hatch
btw, any problems with rattling?

Re: (bpkmrtoes)
in my hatch, i have a sealed box with an 12" Infinity Perfect in it, and it is facing the rear, sounds really good. It bounces off the back i guess. Not really any rattling problems either, unless you are outside the car, then you can kind of hear the spoiler thing rattle
BTW, this would probably be better in the audio visual forum

On the subject of sub positioning..
Any ideas DIYs around on making a false floor / spare tire enclosure?
I have been looking and can't seem to come across one that doesn't use fiberglass

i got a system with 2 12's in a bandpass box for free off one of my friends. they are wayy too big for the hatchback... i'm planning on getting rid of this thing and getting a single sealed 12" box. face it towards the hatch.
for making a false floor, why don't you just use the OEM cutout and get some particle board/MDF or plywood and then cut your own ??

Bass is multi-directional. The difference in sound when you move it is the soundwave bouncing differently off of the surrounding areas.

i found my bazooka tube sounds best when facing left or right (the port faces the same way as the sub)
its louder when facing the rear.
also, a 12" sub is going to be louder in a hatch than in a sedan or coupe, considering the sub is closer to you, and the whole car is the airspace its in, not just the trunk like other vehicles.
for the guy who asked what size is good enough...how heavy is too heavy for you? do you want a punchier or a loud deeper tone? spl or sq? dont just look at subs either, the amp you use and how you tune the system has alot to do with it.
those are what you should be looking into.
