Do you want to remove your rear struts?
There are two nuts on the top of the strut assembly, that need to be removed in order to detach it from the body, not the middle one. Then there is the lower shock fork bolt, that attaches it to the lower control arm of the suspension. Get all those off, and you have your strut assembly removed from the car. Now you just need to compress the spring and remove the remaining nut at the top of the shock, and you can remove the springs and replace them with lowering springs.

There are some removeable covers that you can take off to get to the nuts you need to take off....

No, you have to basically go in your trunk and find the top of the shock from the inside of your car. Not sure how the 98 hatchback is, but with my 00 coupe, I just had to pull up the carpet in the trunk and the top of the struts were right there. My 92 hatchback has little plastic covers over the tops of the strut assembly that you just pop off, so maybe yours is like that.
