Default Stupid question about tire pressure

alright I just put my winter's on yesterday and ther're all low in air, so today after school I was going to my girlfriend's and decided to go to a full service gas station so that they can fill em up because I don't have a pressure guage.

anyways, I asked the guy to do it and he said I had to go to the air compressor, and jsut put some in, I asked him how much do I need I don't have a guage and the paki said that it would stop when's it full. I asked him if he was sure and he said yes.

so anyways, I put some in and it wouldn't stop, I didn't want to put too much so I stoped, I put about the same in all 4. but now my handling is really weird. it feels like I'm driving on ice. it really feels fucked up. it's kinda like my power steering is like 1000% more affective, but my *** seems to be floating too.

anyways, obviously I have too much air in my tires, but I'm still not sure.

I only drove it for about 3 minutes with the new air in, so I'm still not sure if it's a good thing or not.

does too much air in my tires cause that ?

Yes you have too much air, buy a tire gauge they are very cheap. Not having the right amount of air in your tires will cause faster tire wear...

haha. your tires dont get "full". if you have stock tires, you should be at around 32 psi. the air compressor usually wont stop until the regulated pressure reaches the same pressure in ur tires. most compressors are set ~60psi for filling tires, which is 20psi greater than the max pressure on most tires. you need to buy a tire pressure guage. theyre like $1usd (~$300 cad? )

alright i just got a guage. and there all welll over 50 psi, (well the guage only goes to 50) but anyways, the tires say don't go over 40 psi. so I brough them all down to 40.

why should the PSI be stated in my door ? they're winter tires they didn't come with the car.

but thanks to all of you who help me, and I'm sorry about the paki comment, It's jsut that I paid more for gas cause i wanted him to put air in my tires, and he told me to do it wrong.

the guage only went to 50, and it maxed out right away, so it was 50++

I put it down to 40, and if I find it's still wird I'll put it down to 32

what about if you have some 205/50/15s in the front? I put 32 and the centers have more wear on them ...but yea thats what i thought about 30-32 on most cars is fine....im gonna try running 28 or 29 now....the rears are 195/55/15s and they are wearing fine with 32

but there winter tires, and with the cold weather that we get during the winter, the air gets compressed.

unless you tell me other wise, I'll put it down to 32
