i got a 98 2dr dx and i was considering buyin CAI. the only problem is i can't understand the stock intake on my car right now. there seems to be an open plastic pipe the 2 holes that lead into a large black box that i cant figure out the function of, then the pipe continues into the air filter which seems to be sitting on top of the intake manifold? im accustomed to seeing the pipe coming out the side of the manifold and ending in the air filter. Just wondering if anybody could explain how it works exactly some pics of their 98's with cold air thanx.

On the 96-98 DX's the intake pipe doesn't start form the side of the IM, it comes up from the middle of the IM I believe.

the big black box is where the stock filter is.

the plastic tubing is the connecting piece. All that black plastic crap will get replaced.

well the black box on top of the manifold holds wut i beleive to be the air filter, and the opening is on the top of the intake manifold(which also confuses me on how an aftermarket pipe wuld come out of it) but theres also another larger black box near the end of the tubing where the opening is. i was also wondering wut that does

friend with the same car says that the black box near the end of the intake piping is an intake resonator, it keeps the intake quiet.

The black box UNDER the black box that the filter is in is pointless crap, especially if you're replacing your intake. I bought my Sol about a month ago and it has an aftermarket intake, but the big pointless box wasn't out. I was pissed and ripped it out like an angry monkey.
