stuck alternator...

Default stuck alternator...

i unpluged it, took out the 12mm top bolt, 14mm bottom stud and bolt. but the alternator isn't moving. it moved down about 1mm but that's it. can't pull it up or anything.

anything else i can try? i need to change my pulley.

Hit it with a rubber mallet a few times to see if it moves. If you cant get the mallet in that tight space put a block of wood on it and hit that. That should get her broken loose

i'm just afraid if it's that hard to take out, wouldn't it be harder to put back in?

It's probably stuck due to corrosion. When you break it loose you won't have a problem taking it out / putting it in.

i really hope this is the case. how much is a new alternator anyways?

Aprox $150. + for a rebuilt.............with old core exchange.

yeah and autozone has them for about 150 with a lifetime warrenty

damn, that's a lot.

i just need to switch out the pulley.

is there a way to do this without taking the alternator out?

just use a pry bar, works every time.i have heard you can but its a real bitch because the nut turns with the pulley.

Get a prybar and make it move. I wouldnt try to replace the pully in the car just because impact guns own. And you wont have to hold the pully.

Spray some WD40 on there and pry it.

Yeah, pry bar, mallet, whatever. PB Blaster works better than WD-40 for stuck parts though.
