Sounds like the clutch is either busted (spring(s) in the disc broke off) or the throwout bearing went out on you. I've even seen it where the flywheel came off of the block. But since the car will be in neutral when you start it up, sounds like the disc or could be the tranny. You're still able to start the car because when you push the clutch pedal in, there is a momentary switch behind it that closes and completes the circuit telling the computer that the car is in neutral. You're going to have to remove the transmission and inspect the clutch, flywheel, and throwout bearing. While the tranny is out, get a screwdriver and go through all of the gears to make sure it still goes into each gear just fine. With the tranny out and it's stuck in gear and won't go, then you know it's something inside the tranny.

Re: (Hatch-N-si)
I blew up my throwout bearing and it wouldn't go into or come out of gear when the car was runing. If I turned it of it was better, so I just put it in 3rd and drove home. Larry

I have a 95EX, and my car did the same thing. A spring came out of the disc, and another was falling out.
