Stripped tranny bolts! Grrr......

So today I was installing my new clutch and while pulling off my tranny I found that two out of the five bolts were stripped and the threads in the block were all butchered. Has anybody else had this happen? I had never taken my tranny off before. This shit sucks https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emthdown.gif

All you can do is get the block tapped and get some new bolts.

Taking off a transmission is a pain in the ass no matter what. I remember when I was parting out my D16, I had to remove the transmission, and I had the hardest time removing a couple of the bolts since they were nearly stripped and torqued down really hard. The shop that the previous owner took it to probably locked the bolts down extra tight for no reason.

I nearly stripped a bolt or two trying to loosen some of the already worn bolts and the only thing that ended up helping me was borrowing a huge breaker bar from my uncle. It's a bitch, but it has to be done.

i'm worried that if I tap it i'm gonna have to step it up to a larger bolt and not be able to find one that fits.

this happened to a friend and i while swapping his tranny.

let me guess .. . you undid one or more of the mounts before removing those bolts?

get a m12 helicoil kit. you won't be able to find the right thread pitch (1.25) - i promise, i looked for a week. if you do, please tell me where, because i'm convinced they don't exist. 12x1.5 and 12x1.75 are all over the place though. get a 31/64" drill bit, and new bolts of the right thread pitch, and you'll be fine.

wow I never thought of that...so you think removing one of the mounts before removing those bolts caused this? Well I ended up just using an impact and drilling one of those bolts back in for now https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...s/emsmilep.gif .

yep that's what we did. we had the tranny up on a jack, undid all 3 mounts, and unbolted the tranny from the block. but the top 2 bolts ripped the threads right out. take those bolts out before touching the mounts and you'll be fine next time.

and a little bird just told me that M12x1.25 helicoil kits are available at carquest https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif
