and if you dont have access to them and your planning on tossing the shocks clamp vice grips to the shock shaft.

bad idea, will scar the strut rods and may cause leaks

what did you do man? haha
worse case scenario, weld a piece of metal onto the rod if possible and use it to hold it.

sears sells craftsman 'screw out' and 'nut out'
sounds corny, but you cant go wrong with these.
worth the money, but you wont use it that often, but when you do come across a stripped screw or nut, it's a friggan life saver.

Vice grips are the easiest if you are going to toss the shocks. I'm sorry, actually a $20 electric impact gun from sears is the easiest way to remove the nut vice grips are second.

You cant get at the strut shaft when the dust cover is still on, and
you cant get that off untill you remove the tophat.
"use a dremel to cut a slice across the top and take it out with a slotted screw driver"
Ive tried that, dosnt work, it will just bend the two peices off and your stuck with
an even shorter allen hole.
Seriously, the only thing that I would be 100% sure that will work is go and
get some nice air tools, or take them to a machine shop and have them
bust it off. I really dont think that an electric impact gun will do it. I have
never used one, but anything that only costs "20$", I wouldnt think has
much power.
