Stripped oil pan threads. Solutions anybody??
I posted this in the Accord forum, but it's a little slow there, so I was hoping someone could help me here.
The threads on my oil pan were stripped and we bought that Fram quick change plug/hose attachment to try and remedy the problem. We thought it would work but oil began to drip slowly from plug. I did a search and found that someone else used the Fram quick change with Permatex. What does Permatex do? Does it permanently set the Fram plug in place and prevent oil from seeping out?
Also, my friend told me of another alternative to fix the stripped pan threads. He said to take the pan and have someone tap a larger hole to get rid of bad threads and use a larger plug instead. It makes total sense to me. What are your opinions?
How much would a new pan cost anyway? It's an Accord. Thanks.

best way is to either get a mechanic to re-thread the pan, or buy a new pan.
if you want a temp fix, then get some teflon tape (that resist heat and oil) and put some around the plug before re-inserting it back

The same thing happened to a friend of mine, we used the fram quick oil change, kinda forced it on there so that no oil would leak, you could try some thread lock...

This **** happened to me......I temporary fixed the problem by buying a rubber drain plug....it makes its own threads as you turn it in....they are a one time deal kinda thing though...you have to change them after every oil change....they cost $5...not sure who would sell them in the US.
After I while I got annoyed and bought an used OE oil pan from a wrecker.

And if the pan is to thin for a heli coil you could drill it out and weld a nut on it.
