Default Stripped my hatch. Some questions and pics.

A mild strip. I not only did this out of boredom but also because I hate having hella people in my car. I needed an excuse and taking out the rear seats was it =P

Questions:
-I noticed a lot of water in my spare tire well while doing the strip. Any idea where water might be seeping in from? It was raining hard for a few days several days ago.
-I removed a 3-piece brace that went across the middle of the car in front of the fuel pump cover. Is it true that 96-98 hatches didn't have this? I did not put it on the scale but I estimate that those chunks of metal total 25-30 pounds.

you know by removing all of that you probably only lost 10 pounds maybe slightly more.

I would not recommend the removal of that brace. It is a required piece in order for USDM spec cars to pass the government's mandated side impact collision integrity.

But hey, it's your car, your life. Do what you want.

Correct, they do not.

Oh dang, I just gave you more incentive to keep the brace off. It's the JDM thing to do! Nevermind the safety issues.

5th gen Civics do not have it. Only because the DOT crash safety standard wasn't as strict then, as it is now & has been in the past few years.

The overall structure of the 5th gen hatch is also weaker (regardless of the existence of such a brace), that's just plain engineering facts.

mine EG doesn't have the brace, but it may be because it was only a lowly CX on it's maiden voyage from the factory. nice car , hows the loudness? mine was stripped to but a high compression LS witha dunk fart pipe made my **** sound like a garbage can with a m80 in it

Yeah, it's pretty hefty. I'll try to way it if I get a chance.

The loudness does not bother me because I'm running my stock muffler. The difference I feel is not psychological; lighter is better. Thanks for all the comments and yeah, I know it needs a lip. Maybe someday.

Whoa! How did Sponge Bob get in the back of your car?! Is he helping you get the water soaked up?

Well on my 92 the water seems to be getting in from the seal around the hatch and maybe one of the taillights. It sucks.

Wow, I'm sorry if I sound mean .. but that's dumb as hell.

You are stupid for stripping your hatch, that's just freaking dumb.

You have a nice, moderately expensive car .. why didn't you just go with a POS and make it fast?

lol, you saved like .0001 off ur quarter. What a HORRIBLE waste.
