Default stripped bolt holding valve cover ???

I was putting my valve cover back on one day and I got everyone tq'ed down....but (looking down at the motor) its the top left bolt. It will get a bit tight but if I go too far it slips and Ill have to tighten it back up. Im just wondering what I should do to re thread the hole...I would rather not take it to a shop to get it done. Lately there has been a tiny sign of oil around the bolt. So i wanna get it fixed before something major comes of it....how easy is it?

Get a tap and die set. Tap the hole and die the stud. It sounds cross threaded. You might need a new nut. Hopefully the stud will be ok.

i think he has the bolt down style. not the stud/nut style. if it is the bolt down style you will have to have a shop fix it, heli coil wont hold in the aluminum.

It would have been easy to prevent by only tightening the bolts to 7lb-ft like Honda specifies.

Well he can still tap the hole out. This looks like a pretty good set. It will give you an idea. The tap looks like and drill and the die is round.

yeah, i guess he could tap it out, but it sounds more like he stripped the threads, which means he would have to tap it bigger and get an oversized bolt. and i would think that would be hard to find
