Default Strange thing happened to my car today...maybe ecu or fuel related.

So I was merging onto the highway and accelerating in 3rd gear when all of a sudden it feels like I hit some kind of a rev limiter, but i'm really nowhere near my rev limiter..probably around 5500 rpms or something. All of a sudden my car stops accelerating and my rpms dropped down to 0...not even idling speed, but my lights didn't light up on my gauge cluster like my motor had shut off. I tried stepping on the gas and it wasn't getting any gas. So I pulled over to the side of the highway (while hitting a huge *** rock and scratching up my oil pan .)....I think when I hit that rock I stalled my car out or just dropped the clutch or something because it jarred me so bad and my car turned off like it was just in the on position where your cel lights and the other lights light up on your gauge cluster. Then I turned the car back on and it started up fine and everything seemed to run perfectly. No problems the whole night. Does anybody know what this could have been?

do you have kill switches? fuel cut off switches? check those things out first. you could have some of those going bad or worn out.

Have you changed your fuel filter or run the car dry lately? I used to have the same problem in my old jetta, and it turned out to be a fuel clog after running dry that went into the filter. I'd start there, then maybe the injectors or something?

It could be the ecu... I had the same thing happen to me before... I would be driving and then i'de hit about 3300 rpm and the thing would be like a gov.r .... I would reset the ecu and the start it up and it'would be fine.... but it could be fuel, but i'm more willing to bet it's some kinna wiring problem.... good luck mang

i changed my fuel filter a few months ago...no problem until now. I really just think it was probably something with my ecu.

main relay just cut out for some reason? lost power to the fuel pump?

On a side note my friend was driving down a road last week and he ran out of gas...(his gauge dosent work). He must of got scared rolling at 50mph with no engine. He lost his Powersteering and brakes, crashed his car into a curb and now has a bent control arm. Sux, always have gas in your car, hehe
