Default Strange Problem - Worried About Motor Damage

I need some help here, before I do any costly damage to my motor. I'm not sure what exactly is going on, but I'll try to explain the symptoms as best I can.

I'll be driving around and suddenly the motor will start stuttering, almost like I'm hitting redline, but not as harsh; I can push the car to climb through the entire rpm range, even when this is going on. It's enough to make the car jerk and yield a significant loss in power, but not enough to limit the rpm below my set redline.

This happens at just about any rpm range. It'll just kick in once in a while, sometimes at 2000rpm, sometimes at 5500rpm, wherever.

The latest change I've made to the car was cruise control removal. I don't think that should have resulted in this type of motor behavior. As far as my setup: high compression D16y8, 3* advanced Crower stage 2 cam, 260cc injectors, i/h/e, 70mm tb, chipped p28 tuned with crome, etc. The cel has been on for a while, and the idle is a bit high. I have a code reader in the mail and will check it out as soon as I can, but the motor's been running fine for months with this setup.

Any help appreciated.

Sounds to me like a random misfire. I would check ignition components first.

Check the wires from your distributor to the spark plugs. Mine sometimes get loose and yeilds the same result.

Yeah, I checked the plug wires. Tonight I'll make sure they're getting spark and take out the plugs themselves for inspection.

Well, the plugs seem fine... Any other ideas here? Could a bad sensor somewhere give me this sort of behavior.

I would look into your coil. I just had a bad pickup in mine that caused the car to randomly not start.

If you have a chipped ecu then its OBD1, an OBD2 scanner is going to be useless.

I had a problem with my map sensor on my swap. It ran like crap, finally realized it was disconnected on the ecu.

People I've heard criss cross the iacv with the map sensor on the wire harness, wouldn't hurt to check that.

Also when I was tuning my car the OBD2 to OBD1 conversion harness was loose on one cylynder and the car sounded like a WRX. So checking to make sure all wires are connected at the ecu is a good idea

Well, apparently it was the spark plug wires... I guess my brother spotted it and popped them back on before I went to check. The problem, however, is only temporarily solved. Now the wires are constantly popping off. I have MSD plug wires. I guess it's a common thing for them to pop off... Is there a solution to this?

It means your spark plugs aren't sealing well. You can buy new spark plug wires, you don't need MSD anything really. The OEM ignition system on our cars is good to 600whp or 44lbs of boost. Just buy different plug wires.

random misfires under acceleration are sometimes caused by vacuum leaks, I would check that out. You may want to pull your cap off and check the contacts as well as your rotor, it may be loose or corroding. and a compression check may not be a bad idea. didn't read all the posts so sorry if these suggestions have already been posted.

Glad you guys figured it out.

You should just get NGK Spark wires which is what Hondas come with.

...or trim the rubber caps and duct tape the area around to keep water and stuff out. You probably bought the wrong size, or MSD made the wires incorrectly.

No, I don't care that it will look like crap, but it will work.

Thats Hella Ghetto and I do some Ghetto stuff but that's just Ghetto Silly!!

Just go break your piggy bank and buy some clean NGK's so you don't have to clean the Valve cover when all that tape melts. It might work for awhile, but do you really want to deal with taped on spark wires. Hellz No!! You could probably get some used ones on craigslist for $2.

Sorry thumper.
