strange noise from civic at random times. not sure how to diagnose
I have a 95 civic cx with 173,XXX miles. I got it about a month ago. It would once and a while make a slight squealing noise when turning or accelerating, but I didn't think much of it. Today it started getting louder and more frequent, and it squeals also when I rev match downshifts, specifically when the motor is revving up freely with the clutch in. It seems to occur at more random times now so I'm not sure where to start. Also just for reference the car is bone stock. Any ideas?
Thanks Guys.

If it's doing it w/o load (clutch in) just have a buddy listen under the hood and try getting it to do it again. It's probably just a belt and does it around a certain rpm range.

It seems to occur at inconsistant rpm ranges. It does not occur when the car is stationary in neutral, even when you rev it. Could this be a clutch related problem?

Squealing noises are usually belts. Are you sure it's squealing and not a high pitched grinding noise?

Sounded more like a squealing noise, but I'll listen closer next time I'm in the car. If it were a high pitched grinding noice, what would your suggestion be?
Thanks

If you hear the noise only when the clutch pedal is depressed, the clutch throw out/release bearing may be bad.

If it were the belts, it wouldn't be "at random rpm". It would be when it was cold, or once it warmed up. Either, or, rarely both. As for it being the throwout bearing, how is the pressure plate feeling. Does the engagement start at different depression levels ever? That is also indicative of a bad bearing.
