Strange knocking sound (video inside)
Ok, so I'm getting this odd knocking sound. The oil level is fine, using 5w30 as recommended, everything is in check. The only thing I can think of is when we installed this engine we had the wrong firing order and a backfire might have bent the valves. Once the engine warms up it does go away for the most part, but I want to know if anyone has an idea of what it might be. Just trying to fix any potential issue before my engine dies. It's a D15 with 85k miles. Here's the video:

I should add that the engine runs good, there is no problem whatsoever. It's just that this noise makes me worry quite a bit.

Geezus... thing sounds like a diesel. Try shooting another video when it's warmed up. It's too loud to really tell where it's coming from.

Wow... that's pretty bad. I highly doubt it, but you can try a valve adjustment. It really sounds like something a little more major like a rod knock tho. Do a compression/leak down test.

Damn, I wasnt trying to be a dick. Believe me the time that I have been on HT I have seen my fair share of dicks and I really dont think that I fall in that catagory. I always try to help as much as I can and to the best of my knowlage but you do have to admit that forum diagnositics does not work. In some cases it helps but there is no way that anybody can tell you where your sound is coming from. I have worked on cars that were right in front of me that were making sounds that I couldnt isolate to a certain area let alone over a video that is covered up by a massive exhaust leak or sound. really I am sorry if I offended you but please be a little realalistic... some things just cant be done over a forum. Good Luck man.

You don't necessarily need to adjust the valves, you just need to check the lash clearance which only requires removal of the valve cover and some feeler gauges. Make sure the engine is cold. Intake should be 0.007" to 0.009"; exhaust should be 0.009" to 0.011". If they are in those ranges, they don't need to be adjusted.
Indeed. The ticking sounds like a potential cracked manifold or manifold gasket leak (especially if it goes away when warmed up), but without any exhaust muffling, it's impossible to make any kind of useful suggestion based on the video.

Its all good man. I am hope you get it fixed, like I said even though forum diagnostics dosent work, it sometimes helps enough to get the job done.

Definitely seems more like it's coming from the top end up it's hard to tell for sure. Like GSR said, it's hard to diagnose where it's coming from unless you can get the camera into specific spots in the engine bay to hear from different angles.
