strange knocking, but only at certain times
Alright, you may have read my other post, where I described the noise as a clicking, but its now a definate knocking. Its coming from the engine, I am almost positive. however, it ONLY happens going more than 25 or 30 MPH and NOT while accelerating. What is this damn noise?

Car is not lean at all. The A/F meter is pegged in rich. The fuel system is just RC 440's tuned with Hondata 2b.

What kinda air/fuel gauge you have? Most of those aren't very accurate, unless hooked up to one of those good O2 sensors( can't remember what they're called ). You could be detonating..what do your plugs look like? Is there any pitting on them? What fuel you run? What's your ignition timing at?

It's pronanly not detonating, but could be, since you said it's not under acceleration. What does your car do when the throttle is opened up at those speeds?

Its an autometer A/F gauge. The plugs look like, just dark from running rich. I only use 93 octane gas. When accelerating, the car runs and sounds fine.

Beats me right now...what are the revs at when it's making this noise?

im not sure but when my engine was making a knocking noise, when the engine is running and left alone. and if it is knocking while going at a certain speed i wouldnt know 'cuase i couldnt hear it. but my friend told me i have to get my valve and timing adjusted and it did stop and my idle went back to normal. i dont know if its teh same problem though cuz it was a low knocking noise.

It could be your valve lash...sometimes, if I'm at say, 3 grand and not accelerating, it sounds like a knocking, but I think it's just the cam lobes...hopefully that fixes it for you!

not if it's just the lobes...I have a ZEX street/strip cam, so my stuff sounds kinda funny, especially when idling, sounds like a weak muscle car...will you do the adjustment yourself?? If so, do it anyways...when was the last one done...it should be done every 15k or so

Re: strange knocking, but only at certain times (Emerica)
Havent decided whether or not I will do it myself. I have done TONS of valve adjustments on older VW's (used to work at a german auto shop). I bet its basicallyu the same thing. How much $$ are the tools to do an adjustment. Just the specialty tools though, not the basic stuff. I am tight on cash and cant afford to buy the tools, screw it up and have to have it professionally done. I think I will do fine, but I am a little hesitant right now.
