Strange happenings

OK so this is not about my car or even a honda. But when my friend starts her car(a 94 saturn) cold while it is just sitting there idling it has an INCREDIBLE amount of vibration and makes a loud buzzing noise (from the vibration). now i have only looked at night when i couldnt see anything. It is def. coming from somewhere under the hood. She says that after the car warms up it stops or gets alot better. Now i sat in this thing when it was doing this and she drove around the parking lot once and i thought the car was just goin to fall apart. I dont feel right letting her drive it.

i couldnt see anything it was dark. But why would it stop when the engine warms up if its a mount?

and i agree about the honda part

Maybe it has something to do with a blown cylinder. My old truck vibrated like a muscle car cus one of its cylinders was totally FUBAR'd.

but did it get better after you drove for a bit? She says by the time she gets to work which is approx 20 mi away that its for the most part better

I'm afraid that poor car has one of the following:

1. Broken Motor Mount, although this takes away from the fact that it corrects itself in time.

2. A spun bearing of some type, perhaps a loss of compression on one cylinder that makes it vibrate.

3. It's a GM, not only that, it's the shittiest GM they make.

When was the last time it had an oil change?

Oil is overrated, it just adds weight and slows the crank down as it has to flog threw it. http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emwink.gif

i make sure she changes oil regularly. I sure hope it isnt a spun bearing. DAMN THIS SUX! anyone else with suggestions?

Check change the plugs/wires. If EITHER one of either component is bad,
it'd give you that "bad piston" feel. Has she "checked" it at Saturn or her
local mechanic? How many miles on it, and what's the "service" record
like? I've noticed that women, (unless you find that "lucky ONE" http://images.zeroforum.com/smile/emsmile.gif), are
extraordinarily LAX when it comes to routine maintenence, and important
maintenence, (like timing belt/water pump), well, they'll drive that shit until
it blows, IMO. Most females do not see a car as a valuable object, but as
A-B transpo., so they're less likely to treat it as such.
PS How can I get rid of that damn smily face!?

it's the timing chain...saturns are desined to make that horrible noise when the chain goes bad...which it last a surprisingly long time, my friend ownes an 94 saturn with 210K on it with stock timing chain...tell her she better get that thing fixed soon....btw this is just my opinion i worked at saturn for like 6 months and heard it before...so w/o hearing the noise i'm not 100% sure that's what it is
