Strange & Annoying Heat Issue
Searched, did not find anything like this:
My heater blows cold air, however ONLY at idle after start up. If I drive down the street, even only a 1/2 mile, sometimes I hear a click like a vent opening, and boom, I have heat. It does not return to cold air until the car is shut off for 15-30 minutes depending on the weather. (Every post I read on this topic showed the owner having the heat go back to cold at stops/idle, mine does not.)
This is a 2000 Civic EX with a B18C1 swap. No mods outside of short air intake, header and test pipe. 90k on it and this car treats me very, very well save for this. It does not overheat. Coolant is fresh, properly bled, and level. New thermostat and water pump.
This may not sound like a serious issue as all I have to do is drive down the street a little ways and it will kick on. But something is odd. It should heat up after so long just sitting there, and it never does. Engine temp does, but it never blows hot until movement. It prevents me from defrosting my windows before I leave for work, and going home from work. It's hard to drive (and dangerous) when the interior windows are fogged/frozen until I can start moving.
Please help if you can, and I apologize if this was already covered somewhere. I could not find another issue exactly like this one.
