Stock B16A - What Size/Diameter Exhaust do I use?
I have a b16a stock I got a header for it just want to see what size i should go with. I was thinking of 2.5 inch but not sure. I am not going to put turbo on it just want it to be all motor. Might do some upgrades to the motor in future.

Re: What size exaust?
Just buy a bolt on reputable exhaust brand that appeals to you.
you picked an interesting motor to go "all motor"'
A set of cams and a tune would go lot further than an exhaust, and your car wouldn't sound like ***.

Re: What size exaust?
Ya that really didn't help me with the question at all. I have the stock exhaust from the cx motor. I don't want my car to sound like a ricer junk. I have a crotch rocket that is suppose to sound like that.

I would get that with some 2" or 2.5" piping.

Re: What size exaust?
well depends on a couple things. are you ever gonna invest much in the motor for the all motor aspect of it? if not id just buy an OTS exhaust system. hks, apexi, tanabe, whichever floats.
if you are id custom make one from VRS, vibrant or magnaflow, and an exhaust shop. both price out to be about the same. the OTS ones can be found for cheaper though. custom is always expensive...but nice. i enjoy my setup.

Re: What size exaust?
Cool I was Thinking of flowmaster or one of those set ups. I would like it to look stock and all. Of course its going to be a bigger than normal. But I don't want my car to get to much attention that way it does not get stolen. Its pretty bad around here. So I take it as 2.5inch.

Re: What size exaust?
So you drive a 4 cylinder and you don't want it to sound like a "ricer piece of ****"
You sir need a mustang.
Or a bigger 4cyl with ITBS and a quiet exhaust.
Why not just strive to make your car quiet? Intake noise is a lot cooler sounding on our cars than exhaust noise.
and a 2.5" exhaust would probably decrease performance. FYI
You're wasting precious money on the shittiest vtec dual cam motor you could have gotten. Boost it or put the money in your suspension if you ask me. If it sounds like ***, making it louder is going to make it just loud ***.

Re: What size exaust?
If you go quiete around town, try to go with a b-pipe with midpipe muffler! The best sound i got on a b16 was with Invidia b-pipe and old OBX-R! At hight rpm the sound was amazing. I had 2.25''!
You can go with better products but that layout is the best in my minde for a DD car! Obviosly go bigger if you plan going more than 12mm lift cams and more than 11.5:1 compression ratio on a B16!
BTW EK9 and DC2 type R got 57mm ID oem with some strangulation, that's a clue!

Re: What size exaust?
^ ^
I agree
A big exhaust in a small motor will decrease the flow speed and scavanging effect in the motor.
Way too many people here believe that "the bigger and louder the exhaust the better"
At the end if noise and looks are the goal then anyone is free to use as they want, but perfomance is a whole different story
I run a b16a2 with ctr pistons on a port&polish head close to 12:1 cr
I have a 2.25 exhaust with resonator and s2000 muffler and it feels and sounds great
soon I will dyno it and prove my point

Re: Stock b16a - What size header do I use?
Oh sorry, well it's a 1.6 you are not doing a complete build, so I would say 2.25. I would recommend kteller piping, vibrant 18in res, and flat black street power exhaust. I have the same setup but 3in because I am turbo, and it is quite quiet.
Anything bigger cooling would be too rapid and most likely you would loose power.

Re: Stock b16a - What size header do I use?
Your topic title says "What size HEADER do I use?" and then you really only mention the exhaust throughout the topic.
So are you asking what diameter exhaust, or what diameter header collector to go with?
I'll assume a few things here, which might be a waste of my time, but I've got some spare time before I close up shop here at work.
If you bought an off the shelf header intended for a B16A then it will likely have a 2.25 collector on it so that it would bolt up to a stock catalytic converter. If you are running a catalytic converter under 2.5'' in diameter then a 2.5'' exhaust is pretty much pointless. If you have a 2.25'' collector header then a 2.5'' exhaust is pointless.
I'm also of the opinion that unless you've got a seriously sick N/A or boosted B16A then 2.25'' is plenty good for exhaust diameter. 2.5'' is great for street lower boost turbo and fairly wild built B16As or mildly done up 1.8L-2.0L, just like someone already stated earlier.

...in your opinion.
I daily drove this for years:

I'm in that car today while I'm working out some suspension/alignment kinks on my usual daily driver Civic Wagon.

Re: Stock b16a - What size header do I use?
In re-reading the entire topic again I'm still confused, but he does say he has the stock CX exhaust currently because he doesn't want it to "sound like junk" so are we to assume he is keeping a stock exhaust, and he is actually asking "what size HEADER?"
If this is in fact the case then I say header size won't really matter with the stock pea shooter exhaust. At that point the header would be mostly for looks when you pop the hood.
