sorry if this is a repost, but im about to hook up a si tranny to my 95 hatch with d15b swap.

im putting a new clutch in and i was wondering if i should go with a aftermarket flywheel (8lbs) or use the stock flywheel with boost?

ive heard that the stock flywheel is better but ive heard both sides.

more opinions? thanks

get a lightened flywheel. it will let your RPM's get up quicker thus letting you catch boost faster. You sacrifice a little TQ but its worth it, because the difference in throttle resonse and acceleration makes up for it. but if you can get a lightened steel flywheel, i have heard that aluminum fw's suck as they usually have these little gay plates on them that wear away.

i am running the act streetlite (12.5 lbs) with my turbo setup and looove it. gets me in boost quicker and driving around town is just more pleasant. i would stay away from anything like the prolite (8.5 lbs) cause rpms drop really fats and make driving really jerky unless you are constantly speed shifting.

this is kinda true. If you hit the gas too fast its like whiplash lol. Because it reacts @ the speed of lightning.

lol thanks. i was looking at the fidanza 8lb flywheel is that a good choice or should i get something a little heavier?

if its you DD i highly reccomend going with something that is at least 10lbs. trust me unless you speed shift every time you will find yourself jerking around cause your rpms drop so rapidly. just my opinion

IMO get a lightened steel f/w for a DD.

If reliabity is not an issue go for the 8.5 alum.

As for jerking....that is going to differ on what kind on engine mounts you have. with some old *** stock mounts, yes it will jerk like crazy.

with some good hasport or similar mounts or oem mounts in good condition with some mount inserts in your rear mount/torque mounts you should be fine.

Knowing how to rev match properly also helps alot with preventing jerking

Yes there are a lot of great brand name fly wheels out there man but in my opinion there isn't much better the OEM considering the amount of testing that they are taken through.

IMO, 10-12 lbs are good enough for street, i dont mind do 8lbs for autocross

awwh man i wish i had read this before! i just ordered an exedy stock clutch and a fidanza 7lb aluminum flywheel.... i hope its really not as jerky as ya make it sound.

you have to get used to it lol. Im still getting used to mine, 2nd is usually a jerk for me if i let off the clutch too fast. Since the RPM's drop like nothing. But it also accelerates alot faster lol. And ya if you can get lightened Steel, they are much more reliable. I got 8LB lightened steel.

Yeah it takes some getting used to. I have an ACT streetlite flywheel and most other people have trouble driving my car at first. It can be a little jerky and a little easier to stall sometimes but the pro's easily outweigh the con's...

yep, definitely easier to stall lol, especially when going up inclines.

I've got the Fidanza 7.5lb one in my Y8 and its decent. RPMs do drop quick but once you drive it for about a week you'll be perfectly used too it. It accelerates quicker especially if you get a lightweight pulley like I had. Noticable difference in throttle response and acceleration.

I got a stock pully and it still accelerates way faster. Its on a vitara build atm and it hasnt been turbo'd yet, and everyone who rides in it says it pulls more than when it had the Y8 with the DX tranny.

better for what?
The only advantage that the stock flywheel has is more TQ.

Boostage

For turbos Boost is load dependent not RPM dependent. your theory applies to superchargers.
