Default Stick with d16y8 and modify it or swap to b18b

Ive got the basic stuff on my car intake headers and exhaust, but i cant decide where to go from here. Im leaning towards building the dy8 but if anyone thinks this is a bad idea please let me know. Many friends have suggested that i start out by getting a stage 1 cam, cam gear, intake manifold, underdrive pulleys, and a lightweight flywheel for the dy8. Will this give me a little horse power and torque? And which stage 1 cam is better crower or skunk 2? Please give me any suggestions. thnks
