Default Stick with Civic or get a Prelude?

I have a 96 Civic EX which I owe about $4k on. I put on some Rotas, decent stereo, b&m short shifter, removed intake resonator and I'm thinking about lowering it and doing some other things to it as well. Or I can trade it in for a Prelude and be more in debt. My paint is decent but not great, swirls and chips and a few dents. Stock engine with 140k mi on it. If I get a Lude for 8-10k that's 4-6k I can spend on my Civic however i'd be scared of it getting stolen and the BB value won't be high from the insurance. So which would you rather have for 8-10k, a nice Civic or close to stock Lude? Here's a pic of my car:

edit: Here's a nice looking Prelude, high miles but looks like it was taken care of http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/...st=25

what year is the prelude? it seems you're not to worried about performance so i'd go for the prelude.

i've considered getting one for my daily driver.

It's a 10 year old car and you're paying it off. That's weaksauce dude, you shouldn't be driving that. It sounds like you need a carpayment like a hole in the head.

Pay the bitch off then do upgrades. It's silly to finance a car thats actually 11 years old. And I don't think you've had it since new, so You finaced a car that was probably 7k anyways.

Keep the Civic.. No good reason to switch. Plus, being in debt 4k on that car is harsh enough, don't make it worse by switching. You options with a Civic are going to be much greater later on as well. If you really wanted, you can stick a prelude motor in the Civic.

I currently own a Civic (it's my 3rd) & I own a Prelude. I will say that the Prelude is an awesome DD. It's peppier than a Civic which is great on the highway, etc, and the ammenities are better in the Lude. It all comes down to personal preference. Don't put yourself in a hole that you can't get out of though....

Keep the Civic. The Prelude you are looking at isn't even the nice one. It has cloth seats . If you're getting the Prelude so you can have a nicer car, at least get the loaded one.

Also, how in the world do you still owe $4,000 on a 96? I payed $4800 cash for my 97 HX.

The car was $6,800 when I bought it roughly 2 yrs ago. I traded in a truck that I owed $2,400 on although it wasn't worth that much anymore because the engine was starting to go. They paid off the truck, so part of the high price was from that. I also had them replace the timing belt for free, adj the valves for free and install a water pump for free. There were no Civics in my area for anything less than that, at dealerships anyway. Yes it may be stupid to mod a car that I don't completely own, but I needed tires and I had some 17" rims on there that I didn't like anymore so I bought the Rotas. B&M shifters don't cost a lot either. Anyway you guys are right I need to pay off my car, I wasn't planning on doing a whole lot to it before I paid it off, only lower it and a few other things which would cost less than $1k. I was just wondering if Preludes were much better than Civics is all.
