Stick to auto conversion wise??

auto to stick conversion wise??
I have a 98 civic ex AT.. and I want to get 170hp out of my car, so...
I don't like having an AT, and I want to do a whole swap. I've been told that going from auto to stick is a pain in the *** and that my car won't ever run as good as it should. Is this true? is my only option to sell my car and take a loss?

I'll be the first to say search, but I'll answer what I can.
Yes, it can be a pain in the *** to do the sway. Aside from the motor and trans, you'll need the pedals, shift linkage, 5-speed computer, hydraulic lines, master cyl, slave cyl, plus a bunch a small stuff (bolts, etc.) Not to say its impossible, but difficult.
The way the car runs should be the same providing you have all the correct pieces and install them properly.
I will agree with most and say sell the car, but you should not experience a loss. Remember, to most of the population, an auto is preferred over a stick. You should be able to sell your car and buy a 5-speed for less money.

Re: auto to stick conversion wise?? ((hybridhatch92))
everyone always says that you can sell your car and buy an man. cheaper. I got all the stuff i needed from a junkyard for $90. got the tranny and linkage with the engine swap. bought the auto to man tranny mount for $130. Oh and a ACT clutch kit for like under $300. So it wasn't bad price wise. The work was really easy too. The pedals were the hardest part.

true... except my car is a nice looking dark green 98 civic ex with 85,000 miles, I owe the bank 7700... So if I sell it for 7000 I gotta pay the bank $700... then if I buy a stick from a dealer or private party I will probably pay about close to the same, but I'm afraid I won't find one for thats a nice color, nice interior, tint ($180) etc.

I'm with him piece of cake. Just take what you have out and look at what needs to be there not hard to see. The body seems to be universal for both there's just a blank plate that you have to take out to slide the master cylinder for the clutch. the rest is just details.

I dont know though.. I wish I could find a place where I could trade my auto for a stick... but it seems noone's paint job looks as good as mine (almost no scratches) and I have tint... and if I do a trade at a dealership they will probably try to screw me... if I do it through a person I still have to pay off my loan with my bank and then get another loan I'm pretty sure.. but that way is free rather than spend lots on a swap... and when I look for cars sometimes I see a good deal... but I can't buy a good deal unless I sell mine.. but then I'm risking screwing myself and not being able to find another good car...
