My stereo has always turned off whenever I turn the ignition off. I just picked up my 93 civic from the mechanic who just installed a new clutch and PCV valve. When I got home this afternoon I turned off the ignition and my stereo stayed on for a few minutes, then it started flickering on and off! I took the faceplate off and put it back on and it started acting normal again. I took the faceplate off and put it in the glove box just to be safe and went inside.

Later I went out and took the stereo out to check for loose wires and found a blue wire that had came loose. I used a butt connector and re-conntected it and so far it hasn't acted up again. I'm assuming it's just a coincidence that this happened after I had my car worked on.I also noticed that the red flashing light for the non functioning alarm system stopped blinking..I wonder if the two could be related? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I figured it out. I tracked it down to some loose wires that went to the old alarm system. When I wiggled these wires the stereo flickered on and off as well as the red light. I cut both the wires and was intending to reconnect them with a new connecter but I discovered everything started working properly once I cut them. Everything else such as internal lights etc. still works fine so I'm guessing they were only connecting the stereo to the alarm system. I just taped the ends with electrical tape and zip tided them out of the way.
