Default stereo prolbem

When i bought my civic it had a cheap kenwood cd player in it and i had a eclipse cd from another car i had sittin in my garage. The plugs for both stereos were the same type(i guess wires were in a different configuration) So i pull the kenwood out and pluged the eclipse in, turned on the key and after about 10-15 sec the deck started smoking so i turned the key off and unplugged it. I check the radio fuse and it was blown so i replaced it put the kenwood back in and it doesnt work. no other fuses are blown or wires fried. anyone have any ideas on what could be causing the deck to not work?

Lol you killed it. You probably shot power to a cord that shouldn't have had it and fried the **** out of it. Take it to a professional, that's gonna be the only way to tell. Good luck, but you should start looking for another deck. Always read wiring diagrams before you install stuff.

how would it have blown the original kenwood deck? what would cause the clock not to work also?

the deck you plugged in that started smoking is shorted out most likely... and you prolly blew your radio and clock fuse when u did that... next time either pull your fuses or disconnect the battery

smoke came from the eclipse, how would the kenwood magically be fried. I vote check fuses then check voltage on wires then harness

Recheck the fuses under the dash and hood.

Get a volt meter and a wiring diagram for your car.

Without the radio installed, measure the voltage coming out the harness and check if you have the standby voltage. With the key at the on position, measured for power on voltage.
