Default steering wheel/turn signals alignment question

ok so basically when i use my turn signals and turn the the steering wheel the signal wont go off when i center the wheel or it goes off too fast depending which way i turn.. is this because my steering wheel is not centered with the signals or something? i think its because when i put my new rack in the rack wasnt centered ?? i have an aftermarket wheel so i think they just centered the wheel after..because the wheel turns more to one side at full lock then the other

Either your steering wheel was centered by a lazyass, or your clock spring was installed incorrectly. I'm going to go with option A.

so how do u center a steering wheel?? the steering wheel is in the center its just having an issue with the signals i think the wheel was taken off and turned to center it though.. when i got my new steering rack.. is it because my steering rack isnt centered? because when i center my wheel by turning it 3.5 turns to the right and 3.5 turns to the left and then i center it at 1.75 in the middle the wheel is not centered.. i can take the wherl off and center it like that tho but im not sure if thats right.. i have an after market steering wherl btw.. i keep hearing about marking the splines?

soo im trying to search and see what i need to do.. i see a lot of people unbolting the column from the rack and centering it that way but i think thats because they have the clock spring and stock wheel on but i have an aftermarket so can i just center the wheel by locking it side to side to figure out the center unbolt the wheel and put it straight and then get an alignment and then the signals will be even? or do i have to center the rack by unbolting it from the column im not sure how to center the rack tho

You already admitted you didn't properly center the rack when you replaced it. Remove it and try again.

what hub brand ? I had a civic that had a knock off hub and wheel and it wouldn't make the signals go off etc. However my NRG hub worked fine.

its a nardi hub.. so its the hub are the rack thats afecting the turn signals? i thought it was the rack because the turbs from lock to lock are off a little going left and right..

Steering wheel center shouldn't affect the turn signal cancellers. You can turn your signals on when the wheel is turned. It will still turn off the moment you move the wheel the other way .

Maybe the cancellers were put on wrong or the the part that drives the "ratchrt" mechanism is broken or incorrectly instslled. Or maybe some hubs don't have that function.

thats wierd because im pretty sure it started after the rack.. the cancelation function still works but the left turn i would have to make almost like a u turn for it to go off and a right turn i have to make a lane change and it goes off

try that but I'd suggest you actually center the rack/pinion first, have fun when it comes time to do an alignment...

isnt that how u center the rack and pinion tho? oh you mean instead of centering it by the hub/ steering wheel do it by the steering column..

If someone un-centered your clockspring, you're kind of screwed. You might need to buy a new one.

As far as the rack goes, yes, the lock to lock/2 method will work.

The wheel turns the column....so it doesn't matter

For my S2000, I used 2.25 turns lock to lock.

-I had the rack on the car and the steering wheel on.
-I turned it all the way right.
-Turned it 1.125 turns of the steering wheel (or column spline) to the left.

AT THIS POINT...THE RACK IS CENTERED. Now the steering wheel needs to be centered. Hold the wheels (rack position) where they are. Make sure the wheels/rack won't move.

-Disconnect the U-joint.
-Turn the steering wheel so that it is in the straight ahead positon.
-Put the U-joint back on WITHOUT MOVING THE RACK OR STEERING WHEEL as much as possible.
-The wheels may be turned to one side a bit. Turn the tie rods to get it close to straight and then go get an alignment.

Your starting point and procedure depend heavily on your situation. My wheel was off by about 20-25° because the body shop put the rack on off center.

If you were starting completely from scratch and you have a clock spring, I would use my method...except I would remove the clock spring before starting and then re install it when the steering wheel was set in position.

Also...instead of disconnecting the U-joint, you can remove the steering wheel and clockspring. I did mine the way I did because it wasn't that far off to begin with.
