From Steady 32mpg to 27mpg since winter started?
I live in Michigan and ever since it got cold ive noticed a loss in MPG's. I'm due for an oil change, so thinking of what I could do at the same time.
I have had the car about 6 months now, and plan to change out the air filter when I do the oil change.
any other suggestions? I changed the plugs when I first got the car, so I'm not sure I need to do that, however I do have one plug that was really covered in oil, and I do burn about a quart a tank (soot all over back end of car).
so - just looking to get some better bang for the buck, I'm sure spinning out on the ice getting traction isn't great on MPG either and I need to start driving a little more relaxed =/
thanks.

I get 34-36 mpg (roughly) mixed driving in the warmer months and once winter hits it goes down steadily. It's been below zero here for a while now and I am lucky to get 30 mpg. Everywhere I go the fuel is cut with 10% ethanol. No matter what we will get less mpg in the winter.
By no means am I saying there is nothing wrong with your Civic, I'm just saying...

i think colder starts require more fuel....so therefore in the colder months
your mpg would go down a bit, just keep a closer eye on it and see how
accurate it really is..
