state ref turned me away for srs light, wtf?
so i went to the state ref today to get my exhaust tested and they said they couldn't test me for my SRS light being on. I have a MOMO steering wheel and the SRS light is constantly on. they said to put my stock steering wheel on but i dont have it anymore. is there any way around this? what do i do!??

I have no clue about CA laws but why don't you just pull the cluster out and unplge the yellow plug that goes into the cluster. Then you will not have the light on anymore. That is what I did when I put my momo wheel in.

well if i pull the bulb then it wont come on at all and im sure they check for that. is there a way i could reset it to work as if i have a stock steering wheel meaning it goes on for a couple seconds then turns off?

They are just morons! I took my car to the ref for exhaust noise check and they didn't have a problem testing it with my SRS light on.
Just take the bulb out, they are idiots, and if the light isn't on they wont think about it.

not all of em are idiots....i got turned away too for it.
you need to get a wheel with an airbag and reset your SRS light. If you can borrow a wheel, perfect. To reset the light, do a search for "reset SRS".
This process will solve all of your problems.

I went to El Camino college and the guy who got in the drivers seat said "Hey, the SRS light is on! But is has a non-air bag steering wheel" The Ref guy said, "this is a sound check, that doesn't matter"

I have my srs light on too, installed a tenzo r with a quick release. It is against the law to remove an air bag when it comes from the factory that way. The srs light has nothing to do with emissions though. He must of thought it was like a check engine light. The correct way to do it is go down to the dealer and have them reset your ecu. I don't know how much it will cost I have not done it yet, but it is a quick procedure. let me know how much the dealer charges you if you go, cuz i still have to get it done myself.

hey man, all you need to do is just unlug the light, it has to do with your airbags, just unplug it before you go, and when you get back just plug it back in.

the ref up by me said the reason they turn you away is cuz of a situation where a guy in socal had a car on the rollers and the airbag blew when they hit the brakes. therefore, it's a safety hazard to them when the airbag blows.
so i was told...true or not who knows.

no it's not illegal to remove your airbag....just go to the dealership and sign a form and your set...

WTF?!?! Rock turned you down because of the SRS light? Or was it the other guy that drives the Avalanche (sp?)?
Take out your light bulb and go back and say that you took it to a shop and they fixed it so the light wont come on. Either way they shouldnt be saying **** if they are just doing a exhaust test. Go back and ask what that has to do with anything. They cant inforce things like that unless if your going for a smog test.

If you really are worried about them looking for the light to come on (during startup), just unplug the bulb. wire a bulb using the Positive of the CEL light. This way it will light up when car starts but turn off after (as long as you arn't throwing CELs). Just don't do something stupid like wire it to your blinker.

Say that to OSHA.

what does OSHA have to do with smog testing?
