state ref on a boosted sohc or swapped motor?
I was searching the forums for information about state ref, and not much helpful advice came up. It was mainly about fix-it tickets.
Anyways, if I were to go let's say swap or swap a motor how would I go about making things LEGAL? I'm just trying to play it safe because everytime I bring my car out my driveway, I got a cop on my tail just waiting for me to slip.
So yeah, how would I go about swapping/or boosting a motor legally?

to swap the motor legally it has to be the same year or newer than the chassis it's going into and ALL original emissions equipment must be hooked up and working. also the engine must originally be from the same vehicle type to be legal. so that means b20b swaps are illegal because they were originally light truck engines.
trying to get a turbo to pass is another challenge. even if it's carb approved.

Dang, thanks for all the information. I remember about reading how motors had to be newer or the same year as the chasis. There was a thread about debating wether B20's are illegal or not.
Thanks for the information, is there going to be a cost for having the swaps pass BAR? I don't really want to be hassled by the cop when he tells me my motor doesn't match my VIN.

As far as i know, that is just rumor. People go to smog check's and some test only and some dont notice the difference. But actual sticker i have no seen/heard of it being given out yet.
Edit: replaced they for some
