Starting problems on D16Z6
Well I replaced the rotor and cap, and car is having hard time cranking. It is getting gas because I can smell it. Question is- could the distributor be going out?
It does this every once and a while. Now today I got a new Main relay, to see if it helps. Also are B-series dist. the same as D-Series? Or is there something better that stock, other than going MSD. Thanks

If the car is getting gas (you can smell the fumes from the tailpipe if it is), then it's not the main relay. Pull a wire and plug, ground the plug, then have someone crank while you look for a spark. If there's no spark, look for a bad ground strap on the tranny or valve cover. If there's still no spark, it's most likely the distributor or ignition components...
EDIT: Also, you said this started happening when you changed the cap and rotor? Did you make sure the little spring on the internal coil was in place when you put the new cap on. Mine was loose and would fall off every time I took the cap off.

Re: Starting problems on D16Z6 (nuc79)
I was told the main relay has been problems with hondas in the summer, This past weekend it started then really bogged down like it was running on two cylinders. Thats when I thought it might be Ignition. So I replaced the cap & rotor. So today my wife cranked the car and smelt gas, but had a hard time cranking. Thats why I'm kind of wondering if it would be the distributor. I just had the clutch replaced so I might want to check the ground. Plugs are good and Fuel filter was just changed in the past 2 months. So some thing is not hitting right. It just seems to happen when it is hot. Thats why I thought it was the Main, Plus it dosn't hurt to get it replaced. Let me know some input!! Thanks

I'm having a similar problem with my 93' EX. It will crank...but for a long time...say like 5-10 sec's before it kicks. It does it more often when the car is at 1/4-1/8 of a tank. And after it starts...I can turn the car off and it will start right back up like nothing ever happened. Any idea what is wrong with my civic?

Re: (Hatch-E)
CEL comes on because of code 6 ECT. It comes on every once in awhile. I think just the switch is bad on that. but no other codes. So i really dont know. Are all D-series Distributers the same? If they are I might go to this Honda yard in N. Atlanta. I got a Main Relay from him for $25. I'll have to check the prices
