Default Starting Problem, Sigh

aite, so im driving home from work, and i accidentally stall my car. i go to re-start it, and it won't turn over. it makes the starting noises, but just won't turn over. i tried giving it a little gas while starting it, waiting a couple minutes and trying again, etc. after about 15 minutes of blocking traffic on a major road, i'm about to call a towtruck, and my car starts. i drive home, and go straight on honda-tech.

i drive a 1992 civic HB, w/ a 96 JDM b18c1 motor.

before today, there had allways been a slight delay when starting my car, but it would always start regardless. but now that this has happened, i wanna get this fixed.

what would you say is most likely my problem here?

Hrm, a flood would go away, on PFI you can flood the cylinder if u stall out, but it'll burn up on the next cycle (detonation stroke) so it won't matter.. So it's not that..

Is your car turning over strong? Possibly not turning fast enough? Could the starter motor be going? (you can tell by the sound of it, if it's fast enough)

If that's not it check that you're getting a nice spark.. and there's no problem while driving, such as breaking up or anything?

I doubt it's the main relay, that usually 'causes extremes, either it will work or it won't work, not "works sometimes"

Could be, iono, worth a look I suppose..

i dont know man. i'd have to say main relay. your car is 14 years old. so the relay is bound to go. mine is about to go. so i got a new relay from honda for 60 bucks. for me...the relay is causing my car not to start either when its super hot or if it sits more than 2 days.

yeah, i stopped by my shop, and they said other than replacing the main relay, which they won't know if it is broken or not, i should just wait it out, and see what breaks and replace it then.

it happened again today, only this time. i stalled once, then when i tried to restart it, it turned over, then died right away. after this i had to wait about 5-10 minutes before i was able to start it again.

im having the same prob with my 93' EX sedan

does the car smoke when u try to start it?
(out the tailpipe?)

have ur cooling sys checked mine has turned out to be just running hot when this happened

the time between starts seems to be the cooldown period for the motor
Hondas DO NOT like running hot and will die and be hard to start when this happens

just my 2 Cents

i really think its the main relay. cause the way you're describing it, its like what happen to me about a month ago. but i changed the relay and it starts up like new now. no hesitations at all.

its the main relay. before you try and start the car listen for the fuel pump prime "whiiirrrr" if you dont hear it turn the key off and try again until you hear it, THEN try to start the car...

and whats with all this stalling, you cant drive a stick or something
