Starting problem with '97 Civic
A few weeks ago my car would barely turn over but, I finally got it to start. I hadn't drove it for a week and it was real cold so I thought the battery was just drained. Well today I go to start it and the starter is turning but, the motor didn't want to start. I listened and could hear the fuel pump running so I figured that wasn't it. I checked all the fuses so finally I turned it over and pushed on the gas pedal a few times and it fired up. What could be the problem here?

Could be a clogged fuel system, thats why when it started when you gave it more gas, probably to make up for the lack of fuel.
Just my $0.02 man. Hope you find out the problem man.

fuel filter, spark plugs / wires, cap and rotor, throttle body...all these can affect your car starting shibby.
