starting an engine
ok guys cant beat a full D-series swap for 325 bucks, only thing is, that the motor isnt in the car, so how should i go about seeing if its a good engine??
like how to start it and stuff like that??
its a d15b which i dont no if its obd2

be like hey guy I cant start it how do I know its not knocking and offer less
but 325 is not bad
looked for dead motor smell sorta like burnt popcorn pull a plug see if it looks normal turn it over and what not. Look at the oil is it burnt or not there
should be obd1

ok bc i have a 99 with a d16y7 so as you know lol its obd2, and not to sure if an obd1 will pass anything if i was to move to a different state
and i thought you could jump the starter to have it run for a couple seconds?

you can if its attached. I personally woulda just turned it over by the crank pulley pull the plugs if you want but if it moves and feels like it has good compression its probably ok
cant tell you how to jump the starter cuz Iv never needed to so haven't googled it yet

thats what im thinking lol, and since it most likely an obd1 then i would have to get the wire harness, ecu and whatever else is needed to see if it even starts...
Just hate to spend that and some for maybe a valve job..
then find out where this leak is coming from

As long as you have the motor, transmission, and starter all attached, you can "jump" it by connecting a car battery to the main positive terminal of the starter, grounding the block to the battery, and connecting a small piece of wire from the positive terminal to the signal terminal on the starter. You'll also need to either remove the TB, or hold it open. This will tell you if the motor spins freely, and will also let you do a compression test.
I would try to turn it by hand before doing this, though.

Hey. I have a d15b in a 95 hatch. It decided not to start. Its got spark and it's getting fuel and to my knowledge it didnt jump a tooth. any suggestions on what to check? Thanks
