starter or what?
i swapped tranny's last night with a friend and after we put everything back on his car, his car didn't want to start.
everything was working fine before we swapped the tranny's. the only thing we could think it could be was the starter or the ground wire. so we checked the ground wires and they were fine. we took the starter off and put it back on and it still didn't start.
we put the starter from my car on his car and his car starter up. could the starter have gone bad just from taken it off and putting it back on? he has an ls motor with a b16 tranny and i have a gsr motor with a gsr tranny. i just swapped him my gsr tranny for his b16 tranny and when we were done, his car wouldn't start.
he had no prior problems before we did this. how can you tell if his starter got messed up for some reason?

I'm really 2slow
take it to a parts store and have them check it. That happened to me a while ago but I found out it was a ground wire so I ran one from the battery to the tranny and has worked fine ever since

i'm thinking the ground wire is fine.
all we did was put my starter in and didn't touch the ground wires and his car
started right up.

Sometimes when you tighten the pos. cable on the starter the stud moves alittle cause the starter contact not to touch. if you have a ND starter you can remove the rear plate and repostion the contact. If you have a Mistuba you have to replace the starter.

Re: (2FAST4U831)
we just put my starter on his car, put the ground wire on top of the starter and tightened the bolt. then we put the connector on the side of the starter on.
the car started after that.
explain to me more about moving the plate that your talking about please.
thanks

If you have a ND starter then it is a gear reduction style. You the large main body which is the drive motor on top of that is a smaller housing with 3 small bolts holding on the rear cover. Remove the 3 bolts, pry off the rear cover, It maybe over there tight becuase of the rubber seal. Once removed take out the plunger and you will see 2 starter contacts one from the Pos. batt. and the other going to the drive motor. If the contact has moved at all loosen the 14mm nut reposition and tighten or if the contact looks too thin just replace it.

i'll check it out.
thanks
it may be easier just to buy another one. they are 110 at a local auto parts store.
hopefully it will just work like it was before we took it off.

so from reading on this site, let me get this straight, if the starter clicks when your trying to start the car, does that mean that the starter is good?

Two things can go bad...
Battery!!!
Starter...
BUT...
There is this wire that goes from the starter to battery's positive pole... notice the arrow on the picture - there you will find a wire that has a rubber cover...
if the connector on that wire weares (it kinda stretches), it has no contact with the starter or it looses contact occasionaly...
Grab a pair of pliers, take of that rubber cap and make that connector tighter so it stays on the starter... you can try few times... squeeze it a little with pliers and then try... it shouldn't move easily... it has to have the grip... do the "squeezing" until it grips properly...
Here's the pic...

Re: starter or what? (KKVTi)
well, i put my friends starter on my car today since i gave him mine. i tried to start up the car and nothing, it just clicked and wouldn't turn over. so i thought the starter was no good.
i tapped it a little and it still didn't start. i check the wire that plugs into the side of the starter and that was fine. so i loosend the wire that goes on top of the starter to the battery a little. i tried to start the car and it started right up. i tightend the nut a little and the car wouldn't start. so i loosend it back up a little and it started up again. i guess the nut was a little too tight.
