Default SRS Reset

OK. I've read all the posts on reseting the srs and I've followed the instructions very carefully. I've even checked my dtc's and still the srs light comes on when I start the car. When the dtc's were checked there were none, no faults yet the srs light just won't go out. While I'm going through the procedure the car behaves exactly how it's described in the reset procedures listed here on Honda Tech, the light goes out at the end to indicate that the code has been cleared but after I go to start the car the light is still there. To add to the confusion I was hoping when I checked the dtc's it would have given me a code to further check a fault, but, no code was present. So, please help.

This Civic was given to me from a good friend who's mother used to own it before she died, it has had a shunt in the front end but no air bag deployment. It was also parked up in a paddock under a tree for the years, and is a 1997 auto, if any of that helps.

Thanks in advance.
Steve.

Are you referring to just the SRS light or to the CEL (check engine light) and resetting the ECU (engine control unit)?
Here's some SRS reset links: https://www.google.com/#q=96+00+hond...rs+light+reset

See the Codes sticky thread. Jump the service connector to pull the SRS code.

Without looking at work, I'm pretty sure in 97 they released a recall for the passenger airbag on the Civic. Which means you can go in there and have a Honda dealership pull the SRS codes free of charge for you. At least then you'll know what it is.

Seriously, it's bonehead easy to jump the service connector and read the code yourself.

I agree with you, just giving him some options since it would be free due to the recall.
