sr20det question
Wuddup Fellas,
Yes this is a 240sx question, but on this site it seems that if you are not sporting honda or acura you're definently in a drift car and be it that I am not a difter I don't know any better site than this one to get some answers. My brother recently did an sr20det swap and is having trouble getting it to fire up. The car sounds as though it is cranking fine, but will not start. Are there any common symptoms he can look for? I was told it might be the ignition module ignitor, but have no idea what the hell that is or does. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best advise i can give is start with the basics......check for:
- spark
- fuel
- compression
- Timing?
For the ignition, i know that engine uses coil packs, and an ignition module (ignitor), check those out if you don't have spark...good luck

Re: sr20det question
From what I know, the fuel pump is working fine and is feeding fuel to the engine. There is a humming sound coming from the fuel pump and a pulsing from the injectors. Timing has also been confirmed as spot on. The motor has less than thirty thousand miles on it and was bought from a reputable engine dealer, though I forgot which one he mentioned. Which leads me to believe that it is either the ingitor or ecu. Does this help at all?

Re: sr20det question
you have to be a moron to screw up timing on a sr20 so ill skip that. im assuming it came as a sr20det(you didnt put a turbo kit on a sr20de)? cam/crank sensors are hooked up and within spec? if the computer doesnt sense the engine cranking it wont fire the plugs. sounds like you are getting fuel, so that just leaves compression and fire. id check compression on all the cylinders then start checking into spark. cam and crank sensors, ignitor, coils, maf, tps, basically any sensor on the engine.

Re: sr20det question
Guys thanks for the response on the 240, I really didn't think that I would even get that much help. It was in fact the ignitor that had gone bad.
Next Question:
It is apparent that the a/c lines from the Ka motor will not work with the SR20. Does anyone know of an interchangable substitute or is having them custom made the only way to do it.

Re: sr20det question
if you get ahold of the a/c lines from the jdm car they will connect up to the car and the sr try japan partner sometimes if you call them up they can get it for you

The ignitor is one of the biggest problems on an sr20. For the throttle cable look on ebay, there is usually a few hangin around on there. Dont think i have one layin around. You wont be let down once its running, wish i would never have sold mine.
