Sputtering start..
Hey, haven't posted in a while but today I went to start my car, and it actually sounded like it started a little slower, like if the battery was low (which I just recently changed) and when it started it sounded like it was sputtering almost like if one of the cylinders wasn't firing, the first thing i checked was under the car to look for oil (in case it threw a rod) but it was fine, then after a couple of seconds it sounded fine, i drove it, no issues then i turned it off and then turned it on again and i got the same sound but then it went away..my guess is either a spark plug is bad, a spark plug wire, the cap and rotor or maybe the distributor is going bad..any guesses or similar experiences? I have a 97 EX d16y8

Re: Sputtering start..
have the same issues, will randomly happen, like a really weak start.. but if I try it again it cranks in no time... I've already changed the batt, spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor... might be the starter.

Re: Sputtering start..
Even if the starter cranks correctly and normally, it still sputters...it sounds really bad and i have to rev it a bit before it sounds normal again...any other suggestions?

Re: Sputtering start..
Is the CEL or battery/charge light ON?
In what condition are the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor?
Have you cleaned and tightened the battery connectors/posts and the ground wire?

I have the same condition occurring. It gets "worse" as time goes by.
I can get it started, and after 3-5 seconds the idle sounds normal and strong. No Vibration at stop in gear (AT).
If I park some where for a short time,it will start relatively with out too low an idle. But over night,or after sitting at work,it is an adventure. I do plan ahead, and am ready to wipe off any oil on #3 plug,if it really takes a long crank to start.
New plugs / wires(Jan) New FF/ AF Apr. 1,2,4 plugs look "normal"
Note # 3 plug has oil on it,so Monday I will get new plug tube gaskets/ valve cover gasket. I will recheck the timing too.
And new Distributor cap / rotor. Distributor replaced in '05
I think it would help to clean my IACV.
