Spoon is a company that develops racing parts for hondas. They are based in Japan and if you have to ask, you can't afford it. For instance, a fully built B18C5 will set you back $4,500 not including shipping.

they are not worth the money, for the amount you pay for the engine, you can build an engine that would run circles around a spoon engine....Who really gives an F if your radiator cap says "spoon" ??

The engines are overpriced and VERY fragile... I know 2 people that have put one in, but both of them blew their engines in about a year. They also costed about 11000$CAN. Not a good deal IMHO...

SPOON engines are basically a fully balanced R engine. There are three types to choose from now. One is B16B 1800cc, one is B18C 1800cc and the last one is B18C 1800cc high CR engine(11.7:1).

SPOON engines are long lasting, if u said it blew up in a short time. Then I wonder why it blew. What kinda setup to match the SPOON engine he got coz SPOON only offer the head and the block, no tranny no intake manifold etc...ALSO the most important part is how he tuned it. If he screwed up the timing and air/fuel mixture, damn...problem occurs easily.

Btw SPOON makes parts for circuit racing but not drag racing, if u go drag racing, SPOON parts may not be your choice. But they offer really good low-mid range performance which is very useful to me for sports daily driving and circuit racing.

One thing that most people don't realize is that when you buy one of these crate engine it is a fully balanced stock JDM Type R LONGBLOCK with a Spoon 2 piece headgasket. No Spoon valvetrain, rocker arms, camshafts. Nothing.

So why did these motors blow up? Probably because whoever bought the engine thought that it could spin to 11,000+ rpms and then the engine went boom!!! Any engine will fail if you put it through a lot of abuse.

I think that for around $3700-4500, a brand new Spoon prepped B18C-R longblock is a good deal. The high compression version (11.7-1) is not that good since all you get are new pistons. I would take oversized CTR pistons and throw in a Toda 1.0mm headgasket for a cool 11.9-1 ratio.

Just my opinion...

I would just like to know where you found these "Spoon" engines for so cheap, especially since a junkyard ITR engine costs about 5000...

you apparently never tried to price a B18C5....

Umm....NO! If you can show me where you can get a FULLY BUILT B18C5, let alone, a Spoon B18C5 for $4500 and I will give you my car! A used B18C5 will run you $5k avg. while bone stock. Why don't you add on a few more bills there and you'd be getting a bit more realistic.

The engines were purchased a few years back and were B16a blocks stroked to 1.8L with compression of around 11.6. I'm hearing more and more people with Spoon engines with problems. I think they're great engines if you can rebuild them every year or two, but not for a long lasting road circuit engine.

Nothing really was done to tune them except for cam gears and a suitable ECU. Last I heard, Spoon no longer offers built crate motors. Last I heard from the people with those 2 Spoon engines, they were running just a little bit rich so it's even less likely damage was due to tuning.

If anyone here owns or owned a Spoon engine, I'd like to hear some feedback from you guys.

I don't know about their newer motors, but the ones that they have in the last catalog ranged from about $4500-$6500 depending on displacement, compression, etc. And yes, a B18C5 SWAP is $5000-$5500...but when you buy a Spoon motor, that's ALL YOU GET...no tranny, axles, linkages, ECU, anything...just the longblock. I used to know someone with a 2.0L Spoon B18C w/ Spoon internals, Spoon ECU, and Spoon gear set and final drive. He was quick, but I dunno how long it lasted. I lost touch with him and only knew it had no probs for about a year.
