Default Speedometer Stopped Working

It stopped working properly in my 93 Civic. Only moves up to 20 or 30 mph and stops there.

Idk how to do an actual test of it but when mine went one of the terminals for the plug had corroded and cracked causing a bad connection. Unplug it and check.

Yea, check connection first, after a swap found that mine had a loose wire just barely in there, then if connection good, if you can swap for a known working one and see whatsup.

Hello all,

New here and to Honda, I picked up a Del sol 2 weeks ago, unfortunately I don't know much of its history, so I am going over everything to make sure it is working as it should.

My speedometer works but not not showing the correct speed, when compared to 2 different GPS units, the car shows I am going faster than I really am, by approximately 9 km/h, also the odometer shows greater distance than other cars show.

Like I said I do not know much about the history of the vehicle, the VSS seems to work, as when unplugged I get no deflection on the gauges, so I am guessing the VSS signal is fed to the ecu and then an electrical signal is sent to the dash...my question is:

Is it possible that the ECU is using 13" wheels table instead of 14", I know in OBD2 the tire sizes need to be programmed in, but not sure if it is the same for OBD1, the ECU currently has this sticker on it, dunno if it's the original or not, 37820-P28-C50, am I on the right track ?

Other factors that leads me to believe it may be the ECU, the shifting is a bit rough, and I was not able to get the cel to flash by shorting the 2 leads.

But that is another issue for another post.

Cheers
Sam

I was driving yesterday and the speedometer starting working. Then I got up to 60 or so and it just kept going all the way over past 100. And then it stopped. Now it act like it wants to work but gets hung up on the stick that keeps it set at 0. WTF?

Will I have to take part of the dashboard off now?

Take apart the dash? Do you not know where the VSS is? I'm going to guess you still have yet to check it.

I know where it is, yes. But my question is, will fixing that get the needle all the way back around to zero? It went all the way past 100 and now when I go, it gets hung up on the original stick that keeps it set at zero.
