Speedometer problems 92 civic hatchback
Ok before I get trashed on here Iv researched everyday for the past week after work and on weekends trying to find my problem so please no **** talking.
Ok it's a 92 civic vx with a d16Z6 swap and cluster swap. The car has worked perfectly for the past 3 months since I finished the build but now I have this speedometer problem that started last week. I drive 45 min to work and 45 min home everyday and on my way to work even though the speedo is bouncing it was still working. On my way home from work it would do the same thing except when I get off the highway and get to the first stop light and take off from there it stops working and about a min later the cel light comes on. Then I also tried down shifting when approaching that first light and when I take off it still works but bouncing?
One time on my way home I got stopped by the highway patrol. He said he clocked me at 78mph and my spedo was bouncing at the top speed of 68-70 so that tells me it was not just bouncing it was inaccurate.
So a few days later on my way home from work I cought up to a tru k and followed it which I assume he was doing the speed limit of 70 and my speedometer was and still is now readin 40-45 bouncing.
Since researching Iv changed the VSS out with 3 used and 1 new one and it still does the same thing no changes at all. Iv put te original cluster back in the car and it still bounces nothing changes. The car is wire tu ked by me so there's no checking the wires but Iv wire tucked many many eg civics with 100% success each and every time so I'm sure it's not the wiring. Is there anything else it could possibly be? Perhaps the transmissin is going bad? I know 5th gear is gutless and 4th is becoming that way when climbing a hill or trying to pass someone.
All the fuses are good as well so no fuse 15 is ok
Any way thanks for the help in advanced

Re: Speedometer problems 92 civic hatchback
Sounds like the connector at the speed sensor not just the sensor. Mine did the same thing. The speed sensor collects water over time and messes up the pins (harness side) I say disconnect the plug and inspect it thoroughly, may have to clean the pins, I use grease now to keep the corrosion off.

Yeah that speed sensor acts like a cup and holds water way too well. I actually thought about pull the speed sensor and drilling a very small hole in the side of the plastic so it can drain.
Good luck!
