Default Speedometer Problems

As i'm driving my speedometer goes crazy, bounces around the speeds, i might be going 20 or 30 mph, and it says 0. All of a sudden it will bounce back to 20 or 30. What could i do?

take off your VSS and clean the connector on it with a q tip and alcohol, also take it apart clean the grease and such out and re lube the inside, and of course inspect the gear attatched to it.

mine did the same thing and that fixed it

... i washed my engine bay down once and my speedo started bouncing around like this... dried off the vss and all was good... as stated above, inspect it first... at worst it could be bad altogether and may need to be replaced but they arent expensive so no worries

hope that was an easy fix for you.

b/c mine still is screwed up. did as stated above, replaced VSS, still tweaks out every now and then. weird part is that is consistant as soon as the car gets completely warm. but if i shut it off to get gas or something and start it back up, it doesnt work at first.

anyway... if that doesnt fix it, i heard that Eh's are bad about speedos. like common for them to do that.

bump for any other input?

it could possibly lie in the cluster as well.

i just think inspecting and cleaning the VSS is the best place to start.

im gonna do a writeup on how i cleaned it out, cuase mine was reallly nasty on the inside
