I have a 95 Civic Ex Coupe, 1.6 vtech I just recently acquired, and for starters my speedometer and odometer aren't working. What steps should I take to figure out what's wrong? All I know there is a sensor somewhere under my hood.

Ure speed sensor could be shitting on you. Will be on tranny by ure starter. Make sure it's clean and waterproof( such as no open wires)

If its the VSS, its easy to fix..Get your local auto parts store to scan it with a code reader...10-minute job...they can show you where it is too, if your unsure...

There is also the possibility that you have bad solder joints on back of the spedometer portion of the cluster. This problem has been addressed before. Search, there are probably at least 4 or 5 threads.

I have a 92 that had a similar issue but it wasn't the speed sensor, it was the wiring in the connector at the drivers side strut tower. Before you buy parts have them tested first but thats what you were going to do anyway. Give me a minute to look at some diagrams.
