Default Speedometer and Odometer not working

we got some heavy rain like a week or so ago,..after that my speedo went nuts on me,..it was cutting in and out,..like sometimes it would work and other times it just sat on 0,...then it started just jumping everywhere,..now it hasnt moved in the last couple days,..before i go out and by a new VSS,..could it be that the water shorted out one of the wires?

check the fuses, cause if there was a short then it would blow the fuse. And if it is fine then unplug it and unbolt it from the tranny and let it dry off if it got wet.

water could have shorted it out, or the pins on either the vss or the harness connecting to vss could be corroded severly. i had a similar problem which turned out to be a corroded vss plug. I just cut the old plug and used posi locks to connect the new plug and everything was good to go after that.
