Default 94 EG Speedometer Not Working Correctly :S

When driving the speedometer sometimes works and sometimes doesnt, very odd, i could be driving down the highway and it would say im not moving at all but sometimes at a stop i notice the needle bouncing irradically for a minute or 2. but in the end, most of the time it works but its starting to make me think if its actually giving me accurate speeds lol. Any ideas what to check for or what it may be?

bad VSS, or wiring to the VSS. Check and make sure the plug is plugged all the way in.

there you go, easy way is to find a buddy and swap clusters, then if that isnt it, then go to the junkyard and look for a VSS

when i had this problem, it was my cluster

on the back/drivers side corner of the top of the trans under the tb. it as a 3 wire plug attached to it. the plug went bad on me in the winter...tried 2 clusters and 3 tps's to find out later the plug on the harness was shot

i did a motor swap and one of the coolant heater tubing didn't seal so it kept leaking leaving antifreeze in the vss plug. it would only sometimes make the speedo act up till i fixed the leak and used some electric greese to keep water out of the plug . not saying that's what it is but something to look out for.

I had a similar problem. My odometer was working perfectly, but my speedometer would cut out sometimes and would erratically. My CEL was never on. I changed my VSS, but that wasn't the problem. The problem was from a loose screw from the rear of the speedometer. This was due to me rolling the mileage on my odometer, but didn't tighten the screw.

So, if you are not getting a CEL, your problem lies with the speedometer unit itself, not the VSS.
