Did someone put an LSD in the trans you have? If so, did they forget to put the speedo drive gear on it? To test the sensor and wiring, remove the sensor from the trans and have someone spin the gear while you have the key in the run position. If the speedo shows speed, I'd check the gear in the trans. IF it still does not show speed, verify that the little coupler is still inside the sensor just in case it was taken apart and it fell out. You can also simply put another sensor on the wiring and do the same. Otherwise, go over all your wiring; there is a chance one may be cut if you used a different harness or if you cut some stuff out.

thanks. that's a really brilliant idea. no i don't have lsd. i didn't touch the gears in the tranny at all. but i have one possible issue. I just looked at the engine harness. It is a 99-00 wiring harness. my car is a 96 honda civic (ek). I was looking at the green plug by the ecu and the part that comes from the engine is missing three wires comparing it to my harness that goes under the dash. I believe these two wiring harness are not compatible. am I correct?

I would also like the add that the tachometer is not working also. Is there a possibility that these two of the three missing wires can be the speedometer and the tachometer?

Yes, that will be your problem. 96-98 green plug is pinned differently than the 99-00.
