Re: speedo (dash80)
if you're throwing a code, there is either a faulty wire somewhere or the VSS isn't plugged in correctly.
since you have a code 17, DO NOT REPLACE THE VSS

Re: speedo (Mista Bone)
I hope someone still is still reading this thread.
I have a 94 accord and i'm also having problems with my speedo. It sometimes work and sometimes doesn't. I bought the car used and was going to fix it.
I did a search here and found some post with similar issue, so i tried taking the VSS out and cleaning it and no luck. Took the cluster out and tried to see if any connections was loose and still the same. What happens sometimes is the speedo would go crazy. And i now notice that when i first start the car and drive for about a mile or so, if the speedo doesn't work right away(as in no movement) the odometer also doesn't work. And then it will after the speedo goes crazy again. This didn't happen when i first got the car, the odometer will always work right off.
I don't get any CEL, i'm thinking about replacing either the VSS or the cluster. My guess would be the cluster. But would like to check with someone who knows for sure or at least 90% sure what it is before i go out and buy a part i don't need.
thank you in advance to whomever helps me out....
