Re: speed siftin
rev matching doesn't apply here. and "speed siftin" is something i do to a fresh bag that may have some seeds
Anyways, not taking your foot off the gas when shifting will cause unusual wear on both the engine and tranny...mostly the drivetrain in this case. The increased revs when slamming gears will put a little more wear on your clutch and if you're shifting that fast you're probably not giving the trans enough time to preoperly disengauge the clutch and change cogs which will wear your syncros....I wouldn't recommend this "speed shifting" to anyone cuz in reality this will only yield you a better time by a hundreth of a second or less, so its really not worth it. Be good to your car and it will be good to you, abuse your car and the car will abuse your wallet.

Re: speed siftin
Without using the clutch, lightly tap the throttle and you should be able to pull the transmission out of gear easily, match the speed of the engine to the speed you are going (on my LX, the gears are about 800RPMs apart) and with very little pressure on the shifter, it should slide into gear without grinding.
I agree with Mr. Chow, rev matching doesn't apply. It's more just for cruising, not racing.

Re: speed siftin
yeah u can shift without letting off the throttle.it just hurts ur clutch as much as launching does everytime u shift like that.to be honest though u can shift just as fast letting off the throttle.btw yeah rev match is for cruising not racing and i think its useless unless ur clutch is bad

Re: speed siftin
and yea, rev matching doesnt apply here.
also, what your calling "speed shifting" (i call it power shift) isnt the best for yout tranny, unless you have a good virgin tranny. if your new to this concept i wouldnt try it on a new tranny, because youll prolly make it go to ****. so you have to be good, and fast. i think most of the time when peoples gears start to go bad its because they ground the 3rd gear synchros and just starts all going down hill from there.
but....if you drive a fast car and have antilag, then its ok. just dont screw up.

Re: speed siftin
ripping out syncros ftw!!!!! Thats one reason why people get lighter fly wheels. You need to just let rpms drop and shift for correctness, and lighter fly wheels allow it to drop faster

Re: speed siftin
with boost you go through the gears so much faster making it more easily to grind or miss a gear.
wish i had enough money to afford dog gears. that would be baller!
edit: lighter flywheels arent good with boost.

Re: speed siftin
Ive been powershifting a lot for the past six months in my 95 civic cx because I hate the motor and tranny. Its is grinding third a lot now after it gets warmed up but the engine is fine. Also I have a ls swap w/b16 tranny waiting to go in so I can kill this 70hp d15. After I swap it in I will not powershift very often or at all. You WILL start grinding 3rd and it will only get worse.

Re: speed siftin
rpms just have to be correct (have to drop enough) for shifting unless you have a tranny built for it. Speed shifting will lead to grinding and pre-mature clutch wear, bottom line.

Re: speed siftin
a really light flywheel combined with a decent sized turbo may take longer to see full boost, or easier to fall out of boost between shifts. you lose rotating mass with a light flywheel. for boost...i think around 12 lbs is good. which is still a lot lighter than the stock 18lb flywheels. 8lb of rotating mass = 100lbs of actual dead weight.
ive read that another reason its not that great to have a really light flywheel when turbod is because at the track, when you launch, there isnt that much rotating mass so the clutch will just grab and the motor will bog.

Re: speed siftin
yes, the you do lose inertia buts its basically a trade that you have to find the "sweet spot" in. More interia (heavier fly wheel) is kind of like having more tq temporarily though. I would think you would hit boost sooner though, but i could see fallen out of boost maybe. Its understandable, and debatable i guess
